AEG Ogden (Perth) Pty Ltd Environmental Strategies and Initiatives

AEG Ogden (Perth) Pty Ltd is proud to be a green organisation and has implemented a number of environmental strategies and initiatives:

Battery Recycling Program. Collection boxes have been placed in each venue in a strategic position.  The boxes are regularly collected and the batteries are donated to a local school that are rewarded per the amount of batteries that they collect.

Lamp/light Recycling Program.  Collection boxes are placed in each venue and all disused lamps and lights are placed in the bins for collection.  Collection of the bins is approximately twice a year.

Food Donation Program.  The Food and Beverage Department currently donate all left over food to Victory Life Centre.  The Center portions the food and distributes to people in the community who do not have access to a kitchen, are not able to prepare food for themselves or do not have the means to do so.

Paper Recycling.  Where possible all Venues use recycled stationery.  Staff are encouraged to print to scrap paper and print and photocopy double sided.  All administration staff have a recycling bin under the desk or close by.

Green Washrooms/Cleaning.  We are currently trailing a ‘Green Washroom’ initiative at the Perth Concert Hall.   New paper towels and toilet tissue dispensers have been installed which reduce waste and dispense 100% recycled products.  The manufacture and supply of the goods has also been environmentally rated.  Waterless urinals are also being trialled at the Venue.  If they are successful the water consumption will drop by 150,000 litres per year per urinal.  Where possible Venues source environmentally credited cleaning products.

Cogeneration Power Supply.  The power supply for all venues is obtained from a cogeneration plant.  This system is much more environmentally friendly than original power plants with the year’s electricity generated saving approximately 450,00 tonnes of greenhouse emissions when compared to a similar sized coal fired plant.

Energy Usage.  Sunset switches and push button switches have been installed which reduce power consumption.
Culture.  All staff are advised of new initiatives and are encouraged to contribute their ideas.  All staff are encouraged to incorporate green methodology into the workplace so that it becomes common practice.

Accreditations, Schemes and Big-ticket Items.  The committee is dedicated to sourcing methods to gain accreditations, join schemes and enrol in city initiatives.   The current Green Globe rating system is not specifically designed for performing arts centres, it would be an excellent initiative to design a system dedicated to assessing cultural venues.
